Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh.
That’s not a disgusted “Arrgh.”. It’s a pirate “Arrgh.”.
And that’s what I’ve given up being. A pirate.
I made the agreement to myself in my mind that when my new desktop gets here, I shall no longer run pirated software. I’m gonna pay for it if I need it, or see if I can find Open Source Software / freeware that will cover my needs.
Examples: I’m switching from Microsoft Office to OpenOffice.org 2.0 beta. No longer going to have a cracked copy of WinRAR, I’m going to use 7-zip. Plenty more where that came from.
I’m also stopping MOST of my music piracy. I’m no longer going to use a program to download the music files that I want to hear. I’m going to use common methods of finding mp3 files that people place in their webspaces. It’s one of the original methods of sharing files, it’s just comparitively harder than opening up Morpheus/Limewire/etc. and downloading through there.
I’m not doing this because I’m scared. As far as I am concerned the RIAA/MPAA/software companies can suck my left one. And the right one if all of them decide to show up at once. I’m doing it for my piece of mind. I’m doing it because I’m all about giving credit where credit is due. I’m doing it so that when I do the software development thing later on in life, I don’t sit there and be a hypocrite when I bitch that people are pirating my shit. I’m turning over a new leaf. A leaf it wouldn’t hurt lots of you to turn over.

It’s people like you that are wrong. Your doing nothing wrong. Those people should be creating the movie for people to view it. Life should not be about money and greed. The record industry was created to protect artists – sheltering an artists music from someone who cant afford to spend 500 dollars a month on CDs is not protectings artists – its destroying a rich and powerful part of our culture – music.
EFF THE RIAA, MPAA and other organizations.
Find new bands – go to their concerts, and if you really like there cd – buy it. but dont stop finding new and exciting bands or songs just because you dont fit into the RIAA’s corporate empire of idoitocirty!
