To us younger types, it doesn’t require much thought. But to an older student who hasn’t had algebra in X years or ever:
((A-B)/B ) does not equal A-B/B
Two students in the night class had the same difficulty with this concept. While I do have some compassion for them, I lose a lot when the book clearly has it in the first form of ((A-B)/B) and instructed the students to type it in as so.
Order of operations isn’t a suggestion, it’s a rule.
EDIT: It’s now “a lot”
You know what also isn’t a suggestion? The fact that “alot” isn’t a word.
